New Year's Day Brunch

A few years ago Bruce and I took a trip to Austin and stopped in at the Magnolia Cafe for breakfast with his friends, Jeremy and Cyndi.  I decided to try one of the house specialties, the gingerbread pancakes, and I was NOT disappointed!  If you're ever in Austin, you MUST visit the Magnolia Cafe and treat yourself to  this delicious breakfast.

For our New Year's Day brunch, I had a craving and decided to try to re-create their pancakes.  I used this recipe for the pancakes and wanted to try this recipe for the topping, but we didn't have any brandy in the cupboard.  We had the pancakes with maple cinnamon whipped cream and pecans, instead.  Not particularly healthy, but everything in moderation, right?  Not as good as Magnolia's version, but still pretty yummy...this just may become a New Year's Day tradition...

And now I'm off for a much needed run...

  1. Hi. We're the owners of the Magnolia, the source of gingerbread pancakes. We're tickled that you still recall them fondly and your version looks lovely. Take car, thanks for keeping the magic alive, and happy new year.

  2. Thanks! We love your restaurant--the food, the vibe, the people--and we tell everyone we know that if they are heading to Austin they MUST visit Magnolia. We're looking forward to stopping in the next time we make it out to Austin to have an order of the "real thing."
